Circuit Cam Capability | 14 November, 2006

We are considering the purchase of CircuitCam. Can anyone tell me if the program is capable of splitting a large build into two seperate machines? We frequently run into builds that have over 80 unique part numbers. When this happens we need to manually split the build to use two pick and place machines. Hopefully CircuitCam can handle this. Any info or opinions would be helpful. Thanks! -Steve

We run Mydata's with CircuitCam, so we do not have the "problem" of having to seperate one build into two programs. We just use more magazines/feeders on the machine. But I can imagine your situation. I think to get around this is that you would have to create two seperate assemblies/programs in CircuitCam for the one assemble to accomplish your task. Should not be a big deal to make two programs (assembly 1A and assembly 1B) since CircuitCam saves you tons of time in programming machines anyway.

Thanks for the info, Paul. Not being familiar with the Mydata machines, I'm not sure how you can't have the problem of running out of feeder room? Once my machines are 'full' of feeders, I can't fit anything else on them and need to split programs as you have indicated to span multiple machines. It's just time intensive, and I was hoping CircuitCam could handle that. I have talked with their tech support at CircuitCam and they also indicate that the software does NOT support splitting large programs. Bummer.

To bad Steve, CircuitCam is good stuff.

On a side note. Large programs on MyData's. We load the machine with all the mags it will handle. Run the program, take out mags that the program has used, insert other mags with the incompleted parts, run program again and walla !! the assembly is finished. The only problem is that the operators seem to complain about taking mags in and out per assembly. But they would complain if they were hung with a new rope !!!!

Paul, That's what I thought you were going to say. I can do the same thing with my Contact machines, although I do not have feeder handling carts to pull entire banks of feeders, it would have to be done individually. Even though we are a small to mid volume CM, building a component intensive board in quantities over 100pc would be terribly inefficient to pull the feeders in the way described. I find it much easier to run the first half of the assembly on one machine, and move it to another machine for populating the second half of the components. I just wish there was a slick piece of software to do the optimization for me. Still considering CircuitCam for its other valuable uses. (I've got the demo sitting in my in-bin for evaluation).

Good morning,

Look at Valor Trilogy 5000. In my opinion this is the best CAM system made especially for SMT production. Trilogy can balance SMT line for you of course. Ask your local Valor representative to make a demo for you. You�ll be surprised I think.

I'm only peripherally aware of CircuitCam; we were adopting it in a past-life, and I wasn't terribly connected with the adoption. However, I thought that it did have the capability of optimizing a job to a production line (assuming the two machines you're using were in line with eachother).

However, having read the responses here, it sounds like that is not the case.

Take a look at the MyData software available on the MyData web site. A friend of mine directed me to take a look at the MyPlan software that they offer. It's been described to me as a line/machine balancing optimization software, and my be suitable to your needs.

I haven't used it but that's surprising. How does it handle a chip shooter next to a flexible placer? Is it just capable of recognizing which machine can place specific packages? Can't you tell it which parts you want on each machine?

Steve, Although you probably have an answer by now. CircuitCAM can generate programs for you machines no matter how many you have, in 2 different ways 1 is free the other cost money. THe first is the easy way, setup you factory model to imitate your SMT line (you have done this?) both of you machines are in the SMT line. Assign part numbers or assign by package to the 2 machine inividually, takes about 10 minutes with 100 part numbers (5 minutes is me saying WOW) and then generate a program for each machine as normal. Each program will only contain the parts you assigned. Obviously you want to assign different part numbers to different machines. THe other way is with the CCAM optimization module, you can do machines, slide lines just about anything and optimize it. Hope this helps.
