Difference between different types of Philips CSM 84 Feeders? | 30 January, 2009

I was wondering what the difference between "Y" type feeders and "HM" type feeders where? Also I understand that the "FV" type feeders are pneumatic rather than manual advance, what is the purpose for pneumatic advance if manual works just fine? Are there any other types of reel feeders? thanks

The feeders on the CSM84 actually feed the tapes forward by the force of a spring. On the 8mm and 12mm feeders the spring is loaded directly by the force of the push rod on the placement head. With the larger tapes like 16mm and 24mm, a stronger spring is required to properly feed the parts. This requires more force than the head's push rods can provide, so pneumatic cylinders are used to obtain the needed force.

Hope this helps, Tom Pappano
