MYDATA HYDRA Z/156 error on Hardware Intialization.

MYDATA HYDRA Z/156 error on Hardware Intialization. | 21 February, 2020

I am getting the following error on our MY9 during hardware initialization:

F-MOT-MSEDYN HYDRA Z/156 Motor Timeout

After the Theta test, The HYDRA head moves slowly all the way to the bottom and then moves slowly back up and the system fails initialization. The HYDRA should stop about a quarter of the way down and vibrate for about 2 seconds and then come back up when it is working correctly. What could be the problem?

Have you performed the maintenance? It might need grease, or there might be excess old grease, that's putting more friction on the Hydra Z. Check if there might be interference from the vacuum tubes or wires.

Thanks for the quick response. I’ll try it tomorrow and let you know if that worked. I do grease it but there may be residual older grease still there.

I cleaned and re-greased everything on the Hydra head and I even changed the motor and encoder and it still gives me the timeout error Z/156.

Where do I look now? My machine has been down now for 3 weeks.

So to sum up: you have no mechanical blockage, you have new motor and encoder. That leaves only two more parts(cable and Hydra Z-Controller).

I swapped out the cable with no luck. The Hydra Z controller is the board on the right side of the Hydra head with everything plugged into it right?

I don't remember as it has been a while, but this is the board you have to replace.

That error means your hydra z did not reach it's specified position. With the machine on you should be able to manually push the hydra down and let it come back up. Make sure it isn't being held up or hitting anything as goes down. Lots of times a part can get stuck in behind there and it is hard to see. If it feels good and it's going down fully then most likely the machine isn't reading the hydra z motor properly. Since you said you already replaced the hydra motor then you are looking at the mot z board or possibly the mot mi boards. It also can be your long blue ribbon cables if they haven't been replaced in awhile. The board that your hydra motor and encoder plug into can also go bad. Rare but it does happen.

I appreciate the help. The Hydra travel is fine and goes down and back up with no trouble. I swapped the Z Mot board with the Y Mot board with no change. The long ribbon cables were changed about a month ago but I will inspect them again to be sure. I swapped out the HYDR board (the board on the right side of the Hydra head) as well with no luck.

Where is the MI board? I am not familiar with that board.

The mot mi board is the first board but it is two boards tied together so you need to undo the screws on the first 2 boards on the left.

I swapped the mi boards with ones from a working My12 machine and the same results.

To recap my problem: On "Hardware Initialization" the center jaws open and close, the Hydra Theta belt moves back and forth, the Hydra head moves all the way down and back up again at the proper speed, and then when the Hydra head goes to move about 1/4 of its travel (like it is supposed to do), it continues slowly all the way to the bottom of its travel and then slowly back up and I get the Z/156 motor timeout.

I can't find anything in the manuals that describe this Z/156 error. I am extremely frustrated.

Another thing you can check is where the bar comes down off of the hydra z motor there is a little bearing you can see from the front make sure that bearing is turning even oil it up a little. You can also adjust the tension by loosening the tiny set screw next to that bearing and turning the screw on the side up or down slightly and retightening the set screw.

The fact, that your Hydra head goes up and then starts moving slowly, means that it didn't find the limit. Since there are no mechanical obstructions and you swapped all the boards, the things to look at are cabling. Double check the ribbon cables for damage, check the all the connectors to the X-Wagon board. And, double check the Hydra Z encoder.

Have you try doing initialization from service menu? Exit TPsys, type service -x and try to initialize only Hydra Z. See what error you get. Can be too much friction on the shaft. Run friction test

I have tried that Tim and I get the same error message. Originally it would pass in the service menu but when I switched back to TPsys, it would fail. I tested the friction one time it did pass and it was well withing the range.

Thanks for the response. My machine is down for a well over 2 months now.

Try swapping XWB board that is on top of X-Wagon. Have you try that? All signals go thru there. Another thing can be those 2 ribbon cables that are behind of X-Wagon. How long ago did you change them? What I would do is to move X to different position and try to initialize from service from different positions to see if this will make a differentce.
