Metal Inspection Templates | 21 September, 1999

I like to see if anyone has any info or experinces with metal inspection templates in a post oven process. My problem issue is the ESD, since they are metal(12 mil stencil material). I welcome any comment.

Thank you.

You can reach them at mail@kjmarketing.com

Charge build-up on polyimide could seriously damage stuffed boards.

The material is not polyimide. It is anti static with Surface Resis. Dry - 10 to the 9 - 10 to the 11 ohms/sq Volume Resis. Dry - 10 to the 9 - 10 to the 11 ohms-cm Static Decay, 15% R.H. MIL-B-81705-B --- 0.18 Seconds

BUT, like most plastics, it can develop and hold a tremendous static charge. Since your concern is ESD I would be wary. As far as metal stencils, as Wolfgang says, ground them like a wristband but be careful for safety sake to have a 1 Meg resistor in the line to ground. some wristbands have the resistor in the cord and some have it in the band.

Missed part of the thread. Funny that they don't mention it in their literature.

don't try overlays on boards, people don't tent to like them and its hard to get them to use them. its more easy on the brain to compare to a good sample board.
