MyData My9 "no z indicator value at all" | 4 May, 2022

I have a used MyData My9 machine that I've picked up recently and it has a problem with initializing that I can't figure out. It just gives an error stating "no z indicator value at all". I've replaced the flex board with the force sensors but that didn't fix it and now I can not find any information that seems to relate to this other than "hardware problem". Can anyone possibly point me in the right direction as far as where to look? Any help would be much appreciated!

Z-force sensor is a tool travel indicator. It has nothing to do with Z travel. Does the Midas head move at all, during initiation? It sounds to me like a Z motor/encoder problem. Is the Midas head ribbon cable plugged in?

It's been a minute...but, does the My9 still have MOT boards in the computer cage? If so, swap the MOTz with the MOTx or MOTy, and see if the problem moves. If so, replace the motor controller board.

If not, +1 on the encoder or Z-motor. Check for loose/bad cables around the z-motor and encoder.

Cheers, ..rob

Thanks for the response. Yes, the z motor initializes in the service program just fine. It moves and reads a position. Also in the service program, I try to test the z force sensor and it gives me the same error - no z indicator at all. All cables are plugged in and I just replaced the flexible board that connects to the z-force led's.

Thanks for the response Rob. I will try swapping the MOT cards and see if that changes anything.

You've replaced the sensors and cleaned any grease residue inside the Midas head, and you're still getting this error. You can check the connector on the little board, on top of the Midas, where the flex cable plugs in. I don't remember, off the top of my head, where to look next. But, in the mean time, you can disable the Z-force sensor use, in the Tool manager. That will enable the machine to keep running.

Thanks. Yes, I replaced the ffx board with a new one and made sure everything is cleaned. I did check the flex cable connect as I removed all of that to test continuity between everything. It all checked out continuity wise. I also tried to disable the z-force sensor use in the tool manager and the error still occurs. Basically it initializes, shows a successful initialization and then a second after it errors out with that error and an "exception on exception" error as well. Then it asks to retry the init.

When was the last time you changed the flat ribbon cable on the top? Anytime I had trouble with a mydata that was the first thing they asked.

Interesting. I will replace that cable and see what happens. I suppose there is a lot of movement it has to endure.

I just received replacement XWB3 and 3PT1 boards. I swapped them out and it seems to have fixed that issue. Thank you all for the help!
