GSM Precise Location Failure Rejects | 16 May, 2022

Still running our GSM's and some parts we see a high rate of "precise location" failures. We tried tweaking the component definition and feeder definition. We also tried copying to a custom feeder and doing a teach. Nothing seems to have made a difference with about 1 in 20 parts being rejected. Any suggestions?

What kind of part is it? Looks like resistor. On the second image, light seems to be too bright for my taste.

You can see the nozzle is much wider than the part. It's possible that the camera is picking up the nozzle as part of the outline. Do you have the option to see the BINARY image?

This is a 0603 ceramic capacitor. Thanks for the tip; this helped us figure out the issue. We reduced lighting and saw an improvement but still had issues.

Looking closer at the rejects (see pic#2 in original post) there were some shiny spots on the end of the nozzle resulting in an errant small white dot or two appearing outside of the component. We didn't pay this much mind but finally changing the nozzle appears to have resolved the issue.

How do you select to see binary image data? That is something I have not heard of on the GSM and maybe it can help us with other issues.

I do not think that can be done on GSM. Pay attention to nozzle contamination - paste residue tend to stick to the nozzle tip and should be cleaned with a solvent as soon as you notice it, as it makes tip shiny.

Yes, we confirmed under microscope there was a small bit of paste contamination on the nozzle. We found this on two nozzles that were rejecting parts. Problem solved once the nozzles were cleaned and non-reflective.
