DEK ELA and MPM U2000 Hi-E Comparison | 25 July, 2002

Has anyone compared the 2 machines performance? Which one has the edge? What are their disadvantages and the common problems they give the users?

thanks in advance...

I really would not compare the 2 systems. A ELA is more like MPM's UP-1500. The UP-2000 is more like the DEK Horizon or Infinity. You just opened up one of the great debates of the SMT world. MPM or DEK? You will have people on both sides defend the machines with vigor. Go with your gut feeling.

DEK ELA and MPM U2000 Hi-E Comparison | 25 July, 2002

Thanks for that info...

I found out that MPM has UP2000 HiE VP with price lower than DEK Horizon but just a bit higher or let's say relatively the same as DEK ELA...I find it hard to decide which among the 2 based on our budget capability. My budget can afford the price of DEK ELA and the said UP2000 HiE VP (Value Package)...but which among the 2? If UP2000 HiE is comparable with Horizon, why is the price so close to ELA's...It must be a good buy but what's the catch?

Now which has the Edge?

DEK ELA or MPM UP2000

thanks and regards,

Quick Change Tooling is one advantage for DEK when comparing the MPM UP2000. DEK has Form Flex. Good system, but I've heard concerns about long term dependabilty. All support tooling options offered on the UP2000 takes a bit of time to set up. So, If you are doing lots of changeovers of difference sized boards, the DEK will get "tooled up" and ready to run faster. Take a look at the new MPM AccuFlex instead of the UP 2000. This machine has an automatic support pin placement system for fast changeovers and has an automatic stencil loading feature. Durability. When comparing construction, the UP2000 & AccuFlex have big ass, squared off castings and heavy duty motors for positioning. Accuracy and repeatability goes to the MPM models. Speed. Print speed and 2D inspection are faster than the DEK. Take a look at the GUI's as well. Compare creating a new print recipe on each vendor's machine and really get into the software, editing, etc.... Here, MPM has the advantage. Check local support, FSE and apps. engineering.

There is a new tooling invention called the Instant Fixture System. It is a mechanical "cartridge" style dense pin-array system. There is a kit for MPM-UP 2000, and AP Series, and also for DEK-265 platforms.

This instant fixture system offers very fast and very solid pin support, set offline from the printer. See http://www.board-lok.com for information (lower left section).
