Re-use of SMT Components after Removal

Re-use of SMT Components after Removal | 23 September, 2004

olks,

got one for you. What is the feeling on reusing SMT components that you have removed from an assembled PCBA? For example, you place your IC's and they are 180 deg out, you have to remove them.... but what about refiting the same devices? Are they subject to the same reflow rule as BGA's for instance? I'm sure that IP cover's this topic but I haven't found it yet, thought it was in 610 but still looking. What's the general thoughts?

John

Control the temp during removal and re-use them. Do not exceed reflow parameters during removal. They should be good up to around 5 reworks.
