Hello,

I know for sure that using lead-free technology in conventional tin-lead machines makes a lot of problems. But I wonder if we can use conventional tin-lead alloy and components with a lead-free machine!

Is it possible? Does this imply any special measures, precautions or modifications?

If you're asking about wave solder machine, yes you can run Sn/Pb in a "Pb Free" machine. The concern is that when its time to run Pb Free you're going to have to remove all the parts from the solder pot to remove all the Pn/Pb solder residue from pot and all components. Then you'll be ready to load a Pb Free alloy into the pot.

Consult with your machine manufacturer.

Yes, it's fine - as Pete says you have to replace certain parts & either get the pot recoated or a new one. We ran a "Lead free" 6622C from Vitronics Soltec on Tin Lead, then it was cleaned up, recoated and loaded with a no-lead alloy with no problems.
