Fuji IPII BGA | 28 October, 1999

Has anyone out there tried placing BGA's with a Fuji IP2? Fuji says flat out no way but I think we can if we get them in T&R.

We have placed them before. You can only inspect the perimeter, but with the larger pitch in wasn't a problem. We also picked off matrix trays, but the BGA's we did had no center array. But if that type are on T&R it should work as well.

We have also placed BGAs with IP-2, with no problems. Ours were 50 mil pitch PBGAs, and as Doug says the perimeter is more than enough to place the part. We have only placed from matrix tray so far. The ONLY problem is the center array, for parts that have it. Our company has developed internally a solution that allows to place these parts also. We remove the vaccum cup from the shuttle, and a lizard-tongue actuator holds the part in place. It's a little bit over-engineered for what it has to do, but it works well. If you ask me for more details about the device, I'm sorry I can't do that. But it's such a simple problem to overcome; I'm sure it's not a big problem to invent a simpler working solution.

HI WELL WE HAVE PLACED BGA,S AT A COMPANY ON A TRIAL BASIS, THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT YOU USE A PART DATA WITH A SQUARE PART IE PART TYPE 2 WITH A VERY SMALL BODY TOL .THIS WORKS WELL ON LARGE BGA,S BUT PLEASE PRE ROTATE AND MOVE AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE. THIS WORKS WELL ON WHITE BODIES AS WELL.

AS FAR AS T@R GOES SOME ARE AVAILIBLE.BUT A STICK FEEDER WORKS WELL IF A TEFLON INSERT IS USED AND YOU CLEAN IT EVERY STICK CHANGE AS BALL CONTAM CAN BE A PROBLEM.
