What kind of equipment is used to insert LEDs into PCB? LEDs are in tape form. Thank you for your help!

Use a Radial lead inserter. you will need 1 head for each different part number you have. the machine cannsert 2.5 $ 5.o mm lead components and 7.5 with special to0ling. For LED you want to use a Radial with the new dual spocket CTA (Component transfer assembly)Rad-V or better.

Depending on quantities etc, you probably have a few options. If it's the automated route you require then any of the radial insertion machines from UIC or TDK will do the job. We've inserted LED's in the past with machines over 10 years old, so if cost is an issue, and ultra high speed isn't, then an old refurbished machine will do the job. Check out these sites for an idea.

Hi,

there is also a German company making odd-shaped component insertion equipment, actually very very suitable for LED placement and soldering in the same process cycle. LED's are held in position until soldering is complete, straight and in the same height. Make for a good display. Unit is called Place-and-Solder.
