Summary: Directs and coordinates activities and results of the engineering department to design, manufacture, and test components, products, and systems by performing the following duties personally or through engineering personnel. Leads efforts to continuously improve products and production techniques. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures. 2. Confers with management, production, and sales staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products. 3. Develops assembly processes and performs cost analyses. 4. Frequently interacts with customers to coordinate programs, gather information for quotes, or to assist with the resolution of manufacturing and wire harness application issues. 5. Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests. 6. Develops, maintains, and monitors department objectives and best practices to support the organization strategic and tactical goals. 7. Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities. 8. Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly. 9. Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner. 10. Maintains a working knowledge of Quality Systems to ensure that products meet customer standards. 11. Provides senior level engineering support to manufacturing operations as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises between six and eight employees in the Engineering Department. Carries-out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization�s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A degree from a four-year College or university is required. A degree in Engineering or Mechanical � Electrical is strongly preferred. 2. A minimum of four years of experience in electrical assembly, wire cable assembly or electronics manufacturing is required. 3. A minimum of four years of experience in Engineering is required. 4. A minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory or management role is required. 5. Prior experience meeting with customers is required. 6. Prior experience using ERP systems is desirable. 7. Prior experience using Corel Draw or other CAD programs is desirable. 8. Prior experience doing customer quotes is highly desirable.
