EDUCATION REQUIRED: B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum of five years experience in all phases of development, design, manufacturing, and application engineering, or equivalent. SUMMARY STATEMENT: Plans and executes detailed phases of engineering work in a complex and major part of a complete project, or a total project of moderate scope. May have independent responsibility for designs resulting from completely new projects, or major modifications of existing products. This position combines two or more of the following engineering disciplines: Electrical and/or Mechanical development, design, software, application, and/or manufacturing engineering. May lead a small engineering project team (generally less than three people) by providing technical guidance and direction, or by contributing directly through individual effort. Demonstrates leadership skills by meeting project schedules and containing costs. Understands engineering economics and the relationship of engineering to other functional areas in the division. Maintains a working knowledge of company and industry engineering standards. Normally reports to an Engineering Supervisor. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. On an individual basis or as a group leader, plans and executes detailed phases of all engineering work in a complete project of moderate scope or a major part of a large and complex project. Assignments may be hardware and/or software related. 2. May direct the technical activities of a small project group of technical/engineering employees (generally less than three). 3. Responsible for the preparation of layouts and other basic data on major development projects, checks layouts and details prepared by others, and supervises the preparation of engineering drawings for use by Manufacturing Engineering. 4. Supervises the building and testing of prototypes. 5. Responsible for establishing and following development tests, and evaluating the results of those tests. 6. Prepares engineering progress reports, maintains engineering records on testing, product performance, etc., and develops the necessary documentation for patent purposes. 7. Responsible for complete engineering documentation and release of major parts and sub-assemblies to production after their review for proper manufacturing and standards information. 8. Prepares engineering cost estimates of major parts and sub-assemblies. 9. Responsible for cost reduction studies and analyses directed toward major components and assemblies.
