Late stage start-up company, well into commercialization, that develops and manufactures products to precisely control the instantaneous release of heat energy for reaction initiation and joining applications. Building from its strengths in material science, computer modeling and process engineering, provides solutions to its partners and customers in commercial and defense industries. POSITION: Senior Joining Engineer SUMMARY: Outstanding career opportunity for an innovative engineer to contribute to the on-going development of products for metal and ceramic joining technology used in a wide variety of industrial applications. Requires involvement in field trials of new products, pilot plant scale-up, installations, troubleshooting, and general technical service duties. RESPONSIBILITIES: � Maintain complete responsibility for development projects and experimental programs for high quality new joining products and new product applications to maximize profits utilizing existing resources. � Engage in the modification of currently existing product line to improve products or to develop additional marketable products/opportunities. � In a technical service role, consult with customers to assess their requirements in depth to insure that their needs are met with fully competent materials. Test and prove the superiority of the materials developed. � Research and suggest surface treatments, and surface activation processes suitable to wetting using company�s proprietary process. � Develop new surface treatments and coatings; collect detailed data on wetting processes occurring during the bonding process, determine the dependence of the properties of the bond on joining parameters/material properties, interpret the results, and iteratively improving the process. � Assist other company programs in the selection/development of surface treatments of components for specific applications. � Assist in the analysis of problems and in the development of solutions to customers� issues. � Assist in the implementation of the processing/production of new and existing materials; test and prove the feasibility of these materials to customers. � Provide technical support to customers and function as resource to sales and marketing departments. � Develop papers to be delivered at technical conference and seminars. EXPERIENCE: � Five (5) to ten (10 years of experience in developing metal-to-metal, ceramic-to-metal and ceramic-to-ceramic joining processes, including active brazing and soldering � In-depth understanding of current technologies in the solder and brazing industries and experienced in the development of new techniques and processes to facilitate these joining processes. � Experience in metallization and surface activation methods, and the use and development active brazing and soldering processes. � Ability to think analytically and critically; creative and systematic. � Proficient at planning, organization, goal-setting, and the establishment of priorities. � Excellent oral and written communications abilities. � High level of integrity and credibility. EDUCATION: B.S. or M.S., Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Metallurgical Engineering. LOCATION: Maryland COMPENSATION: Competitive base salary commensurate with experience plus bonus and stock options.
