SMT Technician

Responsible for the programming, setup, complete maintenance, and troubleshooting of circuit board assembly line equipment and processes including, but not limited to, surface mount assembly machines, screen printer, pick and place machine, reflow oven and wave solder machine.

Perform these duties as assigned in accordance with AS9100 procedures and quality standards:

1. Create programs/profiles for the pick and place equipment utilizing CAD data or Gerber files and bills of materials (use of circuit cam software). These programs will be used for the placing of surface mounted components on circuit boards.
2. Enters computer commands into program that directs machine to insert components in specified sequence and location on PCBs.
3. Perform complete setup of screen printer and pick and place equipment to run both new and repeat jobs. This includes machine and feeder load adjusting.
4. Positions PCBs on machine bed holding fixtures, runs and monitors machine operation.
5. Removes assembled PCBs from machine bed and inspects PCBs for defects, such as missing components or incomplete insertion.
6. Perform both preventative maintenance and repairs on pick and place equipment, as well as the screen printer, with assistance from manufacturer or internal maintenance personnel when required.
7. Records production information such as production levels, machine downtime, and defects.
8. Troubleshoot and make minor machine adjustments and clear machine jams. Resolve most equipment stoppages and be able to fine tune the equipment, when required, for new part set ups.
9. Inserts missing components or routes defective boards to repair department.
10. Orders equipment and spare parts including, but not limited to, screen paste masks, solder paste, tool tips, etc.

Required Skills: 3 -5 years previous SMT operation experience. Current IPC 610 certified/J-STD001 certified or have the ability to pass and maintain these certifications.Knowledge of manufacturing software to perform programming, ability to troubleshoot equipment, work with outside vendors to problem solve. Good organizational skills to prioritize work and meet production schedules, at the same time monitoring quality of product.
