Major job duty/accountability

40% of Construction of Models, and Prototypes

  • This requires soldering through hole and surface mount components. Some mechanical assembly and wiring may also be needed, as in building Test Fixtures.
  • The ability to follow schematics, board layouts and assembly diagrams is essential.
  • Outcome: When finished the model or prototype will closely resemble the documentation provided.

Design Schematics and Board Layouts

  • This can be a major duty for some, but not all Technicians.
  • The Technician has specialized training in the CAD Software used and is also familiar with proper board design techniques.
  • Circuit design starts with a Schematic and is usually directed by the Engineer.
  • After completion of the Schematic, the Layout is started.
  • The Layout which is the most critical part of the design is critique by the Technician and Engineer prior to finalizing the design.
  • The Technician is responsible for providing all the files needed by Badger Meter Drafting Department, Purchasing Department and the Board Assembly House.
  • Outcome: The final product should satisfy the design requirements set forth.

40% of Testing, recording, analyzing and reporting data on products.

  • Proper understanding of test document, procedure and Design Engineers input will be implicit prior to and during testing.
  • Knowledge of proper setup and use of test equipment such as Digital Volt Meters, Oscilloscopes, RF Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers and Network Analyzers is required.
  • Data accumulated will be reported using Microsoft office in an acceptable format.
  • As part of identifying any issues and concerns, the Technician should feel obligated to voice their concerns with the Engineer involved.
  • This may include but not limited to the testing of a design and the design its self. If in disagreement the Technician should also feel obligated to accept the Engineers final decision.
  • Outcome: Results will be complete in satisfying the test plan and the Design Engineer involved.

10% of Manufacturing Support

  • Technician may provide most all of the above services to Manufacturing.
  • Outcome: Better product and value to our Customers.

7% of Assist in the training and directing of other Technicians.

  • Technician may specialize in certain areas where cross training may be needed. This will be necessary in their absence or when additional help is needed.
  • It may be necessary for one Technician to direct others in the proper procedures necessary to accomplish the task at hand.
  • Training Technicians on other procedures and equipment may also be necessary.
  • Outcome: This should allow for smoother transition in the Technician’s absents, or when help is needed.

3% of Maintenance of equipment and supplies.

  • Technician should be capable of identifying any issues with equipment and needed supplies.
  • He or She will notify the Electronics Lab Manager if such an issue should arise.
  • Technician may be instructed to handle the procedures necessary to have equipment calibrated or repaired.
  • Purchase Orders should be filled out by the person requesting supplies and submitted for authorization.
  • Outcome: For efficient operation of the Electronics Lab, these procedures should be followed on a daily basis.
