Job Description:

Mini-Circuits designs, manufactures and distributes integrated circuits, modules, and sub-systems for high performance radio frequency (RF) and microwave applications.  With design, sales and manufacturing locations in over 30 countries, Mini-Circuits’ products are used in a range of wired and wireless communications applications. Our products are also used in detection, measurement and imaging applications, including military communication, guidance and electronic countermeasure systems, commercial, scientific, military land, sea and aircraft; automotive systems, medical systems, and industrial test equipment.

The Senior RF Circuits Design Engineer is responsible for developing a variety of novel passive RF, Microwave, and Millimeter-Wave components with emphasis on Filters, Power Splitters, Couplers, and Baluns to be employed in Defense and Aerospace, Telecommunications, Test and Measurement, Commercial & Industrial applications. This position reports to the LTCC Product Line Manager with the potential to become an integral part of our management team.

The designs will include any combination of lumped element and distributed structures with circuits realized in multi-layer low temperature co fired ceramic (LTCC) substrates.

Job Function (day-to-day responsibilities):

Product Design and Development:
Conduct the technical feasibility of market requirements and specifications
Utilizing simulation software (ADS + HFSS or equivalent), design passive RF, Microwave, and Millimeter-Wave LTCC components with emphasis on Filters, Power Splitters, Couplers, and Baluns
Contribute to the development of novel topologies, design methodologies, and simulation modeling techniques
Ensure design for manufacturability practices are put in place achieving first spin pass success
Evaluate new components, materials & suppliers
Prepare design review meetings
Contribute and maintain a library of FEM and MoM simulation models including connectors, PCBs, LTCCs, Cal Standards, Wire bonds, and lumped components, among others.
Generate IP and publications in the form of patents, white papers, technical seminars, webinars, workshops, application notes, technical articles, etc.

Product Characterization, Qualification, and Test Development:
Work with characterization and test engineers to define test plans and block diagrams
Work with Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Engineering to develop qualification plans, test strategies, and methodologies to qualify new designs, topologies, and technologies

Support:
Serve as technical support to the LTCC Product Line Manager, and the Production, Marketing, Sales, and Applications departments on new and existing designs in regard to customer requests, marketing requirements and manufacturing support.
Maintain industry competitive knowledge base in LTCC materials and processes, circuital topologies, design methodologies/techniques, simulation software and modeling techniques, device characterization techniques, and novel production testing strategies

Management
Hands-on technical management of design projects from concept through production launch including defining project milestones and responsibilities, and interfacing with other team members to meet the project’s objectives
Qualifications
BSEE with 10+ years, MSEE with 8+ years or Ph.D. with 6+ years relevant experience in passive components developments
Strong background in the design of passive components like Filters, Power Splitters, Couplers, and Transformers in multi-layer technologies operating in the mmWave range
Familiarity with both thick-film and thin-film processes
Real-world strong lab analysis and debug experience required to verify simulated performance
Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with system-level design practices, requirements, and budgeting
Very strong background in EM Simulation and modeling employing MoM and FEM engines. Prior experience with Ansys HFSS and Keysight’s ADS and Momentum is preferred
Good familiarity with statistical analysis techniques is preferred
Knowledge of Matlab and Python is preferred
Knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks, and DraftSight
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team of engineers to create & support the activities during the life cycle of products, from conception through production within stated time frames
US Citizen or US Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder)
Strong communication and presentation skills
