PACSystems RX3i IC695CPU320/315 Mature with Replacement
Summary
GE Intelligent Platforms is introducing its newest CPU for the PACSystems RX3i product family this month with
built in Ethernet communications and higher performance to serve complex applications and provide
connectivity to the industrial internet. The new IC695CPE330 has all the memory and performance plus
additional capability to replace the IC695CPU320 and IC695CPU315. Therefore the IC695CPU320 and
IC695CPU315 will go mature May 1, 2015. Customers may start ordering or change orders that have not
shipped to the new CPU now. We will support the older CPUs per our life cycle policy.

Differences between CPE330 and CPU320/315
• The CPE330 has different power supply requirements. Please check the data sheets or see the
requirements using Proficy Machine Edition 8.6 or greater.
• The CPU320 and CPU315 each have 2 serial ports. They can be used for programming or other serial
communications. To do programming over Ethernet for the CPU320 or CPU315 you must add an
Ethernet module (IC695ETM001). The CPE330 can be programmed over the built in Ethernet ports and
if you need serial connections, a serial module (IC695CMM002) can be added.
• CPE330 has metal housing which includes screws for secure connection to backplane.
Question and Answers
Q. What should I do with existing CPU315s or CPU320s installed?
A. You are not required to do anything. GE-IP will support any warranty issues. If you wish to take
advantage of the new features of the CPE330 they can trade in the CPU315 or CPU320 for a new
CPE330 between now and June 1 for a 20% discount.
Q. I am an OEM currently use CPU320/315s. If I want to switch now is the pricing the same?
A. If I want to switch right away the price for the CPE330 is the same as the CPU320 and CPU315. If
you need the RAM memory backed up when no power to system, there is additional cost for the
Energy PAC for the CPE330, very similar in pricing to the additional battery pack (IC693ACC302)
required for the CPU320 and CPU315. Order the IC695CPK330 for the complete package
containing both CPE330 and Energy PAC.
Q. I have quoted CPU320/315 on projects and I need price protection, what do I need to do?
A. The price for the CPE330 is the same as the CPU320 and CPU315. The only additional cost is the
Energy PAC for RAM memory retention when there is no power to the system, The Energy PAC is
very similar in price to the additional battery pack required for the CPU320 and CPU315. If you run
completely out of Flash memory and dynamic data does not need to be retained then you can go
without the Energy PAC.
Q. When will the CPE330 be available?
A. The CPE330 is open for orders (see the part numbers in the table below). Production is starting now
and first shipments begin in April.
Q. GEIP Life Cycle Policy says that you mature for a minimum of 2 years before it goes obsolete. Will
that be the case for the CPU315 and CPU320?
A. The GEIP policy states that we have the ability to obsolete if we have a direct replacement. The
CPU330 is a direct replacement with offering you more capability to reduce footprint and cost now
and going forward. We will not obsolete right away but we hope to have most people converted
over quickly.
Q. Will a program go from a CPU320 directly into a CPE330? How about a CPU315 conversion?
A. The CPE330 will take directly a CPU320 Proficy Machine Edition program. If you do not go in and
change the CPU type it will act like the CPU320 except there will be no serial ports and you cannot
use the Ethernet ports on the CPU. For the CPU315 because of the memory size difference you
must go in and change the configuration before downloading. Again the serial ports will not be
active and the Ethernet ports will not be available until you change the configuration to a CPE330.
Q. What do I do about the serial ports?
A. To get serial communications you will need to put in a communications module, either the
IC695CMM002 or IC695CMM004. These modules are much simpler to use and create the
communications you need. Since the CPE330 has built in Ethernet and can often replace the
Ethernet module IC695ETM001, the CMM will often easily go in the slot where the ETM is today
