F Series Connector and the New Mini FF Series designed for Autosport The F Series connector was developed to meet the changing requirements of the Motor Racing market and evolved from a survey of all the Formula One teams within the UK. Benefits of this range are as follows: 1. Space savings are particularly evident with pcb mount versions such as the HEN model, which means that electronics packaging can be considerably reduced in size when compared with use of MIL spec connectors 2. The relative diameter of the F Series is much smaller than competing styles of connector, which makes it easier to feed cable assemblies through struts on the cars - particularly when linking wheel and other associated sensors 3. Blind mating of the F series has been improved to make it easier to mate the connectors in areas of difficult access 4. Sealing to IP67 5. Latches have been re-designed for even greater resilience 6. The connector has been subjected to the MIL standard 26 minute gunfire test and passed. This test is intended to simulate the effects of the connector being mounted directly on a heavy field gun that is being constantly fired for 26 minutes. Why 26 minutes? - it is an American test, but at least it demonstrates the capability of the new design F Series connector The most interesting development is the new FF Series connector. Not only does it include all the latest improvements to the F series as a whole, but it is even smaller and is based on the tiny 00 series connector � nominal diameter only 6mm. The FF series connector was developed for Formula One customers so that it can be used in conjunction with various sensors on the vehicle. This means that one can considerably reduce the size of the sensors. In addition one can get the cables through even smaller struts. Smaller sensors and struts mean further weight savings on the car, which is a constant pursuit of F1 team engineers. The general design of the military style connectors is such that they cannot physically get anywhere near to the miniature size of the FF and even the 0F connectors. The FF series connector is probably the smallest ruggedised connector in the world that provides customers with real opportunities for space savings and consequently weight savings.
