The challenge of selectivity In connection with switched-mode power supply units, conventional line protection, fuses or circuit-breakers alone, do not offer reliable protection. Due to the electronic current limiting of the power supply, conventional protection units do not trip reliably. If a single 24 V load fails, it can cause a breakdown of the DC voltage supply by a short circuit or an increase in power consumption.
