A resistor is an electronic component with two terminals, constructed from a resistive material in a specific structure, designed to limit the flow of current in a circuit. The resistance value of a resistor is typically influenced by factors such as temperature, the material used, length, and cross-sectional area. One important characteristic of a resistor is its temperature coefficient, which indicates how its resistance is affected by temperature changes.

Resistors are commonly utilized to control and stabilize current and voltage within a circuit. Depending on the requirements of the circuit, resistors can also be used for various purposes like enhancing negative or positive feedback in a circuit, facilitating voltage-current conversion, or serving as elements for input overload voltage or current protection.

Resistors are categorized into three main types: fixed resistors, potentiometers, and sensitive resistors. Sensitive resistors are particularly responsive to specific physical quantities such as temperature, humidity, light, voltage, or mechanical force. As these physical quantities vary, the resistance value of the sensitive resistor changes accordingly, demonstrating different resistance levels.
