Perhaps the inexpensive program called SMT-Maestro can be of help for some of your data manipulation ? Like Excel it doesn't take gerber directly, but it can cope with any delimited ascii file. A trial is available at http://www.smtinfo.net/smtmae

What do you want to do with the gerber file? Most gerber outputted data is in ascii and can be read with notepad or any text editor. If you want to view the gerber data there are free viewers on the web ie: gerbv.sourceforge.net Hope this helps.

Are you sure you mean pick and place files? Or does the manufacturer need centroid data to make their own pick and place files? Or they might even be able to use ascii CAD data to generate pick and place files. Look for an export function. Probably

I want to say that I did that last year. You can download Eagle for free(trial period), open the ASCII and generate the P&P file. It was an option under the file menu I think....not hundred percent sure....but it was definitely saying exports P&P fil

Almost every machine can import plain ASCII files, internal formats vary a lot and usually are in some kind of binary format. My suggestion is to generate plain ASCII file with at minimum 5 fields : X, Y, theta, RefDes and component type. - Deni

Try to get ahold of Zevatech's "Flex Program". It will convert an ASCII file into the Zevatech Binary format. I understand they don't charge much for this - if it is even still available.
