Wrist straps are used to bring the operator to ground potential which is the same potential as the dissipative worksurface and the electronic device which is on the bench. Everything must be at the same elctrical potential. Wireless straps will not d

isn't "wireless ESD grounding" called "lightning" in layman's terms?

We'd guess that you want the ESD ground at the same point as the building ground for personnel safety reasons. Injured employees and OSHA inspector should be enough to convice the old timers [in most plants].

Chunks, by the science behind it do you mean the conductive threading and the need to ground the smock or is there some new science we're talking about like the "Corona effect" and wireless ESD grounding lol....?

It is difficult to verify our current state. We are building a new factory, I am trying to push to have one common ground. But some old timers prefer to have the electrical ground seperate to the ESD ground. I will check if we decide to have it in

Yeah, we do have wrist straps, heel straps, ESD wax, and grounded ESD mats on all work benches. One guy with long fly-away hair was actually told to wear his hair pinned back as well - so started to wear a ball cap... Genny.

Actually that reminds me I remember one place I visited that wore two heel straps for saftey purposes. The reasoning was that if you touched a live wire with one hand and only had the heel strap on the other foot the current would go through your he

We did some research a few years back, but you do have to test them regularly and replace them. http://www.twclean.com/debugging.html Here's Topline's justification (but then again they do sell them): ESD coats are required primarily for 3 reason

I need some help in setting straight QA which owns our ESD Procedures. 1. Is the limmiting resistor for personel safety or to slow down ESD discharge? Everything I have read indicates it is for personnel safety. 2. Is it an ESD violation to have
