Jimmy, We've been soldering tin plated components and Ni/Sn (100% Tin) boards with leaded solder in the 80's in hirel and military applications. We never experienced reliability issues with the mechanical or electrical properties of the solder joint

Is your oven suitable for Lead free temperatures & can it achieve a decent profile across your complete range of boards? AOI will need to be looked at too as the joints are not as shiney. Cheers, Rob. PS. Where's Thisbie?

Amol, I thought I answered your question in another thread, dude! Anyway, to re-iterate. Yes, I was able to pull it off a hybrid profile. The LF BGA passed tensile testing, but no, it wasn't thermally cycled or stressed first to expose any latent

Technically speaking, most likely yes it will work, unless possibly it is a BGA. There are issues surrounding BGA's. Here are some of the general issues: On any type of component, if the Pbfree solder you are using contains bismuth, then the Pb in

A little late to the party here, sorry... Has the joint been verified as a cold solder joint? That is, visually confirmed that it looks like cold solder, and, perhaps, xrayed to confirm the solder status? X-raying may sound a bit extreme, but you'

We are using SN100C in both our wave and selective machines and have very good results. We also using it for ROHS hand soldering. It flows better than SAC305, the joints are shinny just like Sn63/37. We are looking into using SN100C as our paste b

Continuing along the path that Brian took ... IPC-7525 gives design guideline for stepped stencils. It goes something like: * Stepped area SB GT 25 thou from pads located on the greatest thickness of the stencil * Pads in stepped area SB GT 35 tho

| Looking for articles/data comparing the quality/reliability of mass | reflowed SMT solderjoints versus hand soldered SMT solderjoints. As solder joint quality most often is subjective - that is visually compared with graphic examples, IPC is the B

Lead free solder does tend to resemble cold solder joints after processing. Generally, this is acceptable. The latest IPC 610 has pictures of acceptability of lead free solder joints, which you can use to compare to the joints that you are seeing o

Target those specific parts/leads with a thermal-couple and a mole and try to get the peak reflow temps up to 225 C. It's not a cure but it will improve the apperance of the solder joints.
