QFN Thermal pad voiding

Electronics Forum | Fri May 15 10:04:59 EDT 2009 | aj

Hi all, Is there any standard for percentage voiding on the center thermal pad on a QFN? We use the dot matrix array for paste to allow for outgassing etc, but we have had a couple of xray inspection "fails" for voiding on this pad , in or around 3

0201 pad layout

Electronics Forum | Fri Jan 06 05:03:11 EST 2012 | richieoreilly

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone is placing 0201 components in volume. If so What pad layout are you using, i.e. pad size, shape and spacing. Also are you pads and fiducials solder mask defined or copper defined. Can you also let me know the rough q

Question about pad pullbacks

Electronics Forum | Mon Dec 18 11:17:52 EST 2006 | mashmo

I am always looking for ways to make my boards more reliable and easier to fabricate and assemble. I have been baselining my footprints off of IPC-7351 and with the latest revision of the calculator they have started a new feature. Normally on say

make 4 square rounded corner apertures on the ground pad and the total reduction of 20 % (80 % solder paste). Then you still be able to solder the terminals around. Don't worry to much of the void's. Just following my tips and you will be fine. The

BGA ball and PCB pad

There's normally a number of reasons people want to know what melts 1st, 1 - to see if you know, 2 voiding issues - whole can of worms 3 device alignment. One of our collegues has said that most balls are Eutectic, that's in fact not totally correct.

0402 pad and stencil aperture design

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 30 22:29:58 EDT 2008 | davef

For most applications, a nice square [or rectangle] pad works just fine. Assemblers ship boat loads of boards with these every day. It's reasonable for tight decoupling capacitor requirement applications to use round or radiused pads for components

0402 pad and stencil aperture design

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 30 15:36:18 EDT 2008 | grantp

Hi, Sounds like your engineer does not know what he's doing. We have developed and built hundreds of thousands of boards with normal square pads for 0402, and we just use a 5 thou stencil with 5% reduction and it works well. Decoupling? What is tha

LGA voiding

Electronics Forum | Thu Jan 02 22:09:15 EST 2020 | Zack

Hello, Can you give more detail on LGA parts in question? is 50 mm x 50 mm is overall size of the parts? What about pad pitch and how big is the pads individually? I assume that 50x50 mm is overall size. How about the stencil opening for the LGA pad
