We are looking to barcode our pcbs for industry 4.0 traceability. We have a fairly new laser that we use for other operations like case marking and would like to use this to mark a 2D barcode on the PCB surface for the SMT equipment to be able to s

I have successfully used laser marked bar codes on PCBs. Use an area without any copper so that you are marking on the FR4 only

Laser the barcode on a label and place it on the board. Trying laser the substrate does not work well.

We are considering using gold plating on our fine pitch pcbs (as oppossed to HASL). We have heard of long term solder reliability problems with joint imbrittlment how bad is this and does it apply for all of the different plating processes the same?

We haven't laser engraved PCBs but we have had 2D barcodes silk screened on. When I saw them I thought that they would not work because the white squares were blobs but they did work. With the Datamatrix format only the centre of each little square

Could someone please tell me if it is possible that erroneous 'leakage current' readings in an instrument could be inheritated by the type, design and fabrication of the PCB itself, if so then where could I find information relating to this subject.

Use Data matrix barcode 2d.size nothing smaller than 4x4. Larger the barcode easier to read. Good quality hand scanner.

We have used an area with silkscreen on the PCB to make the laser printing more readable. This works very well with a wide range of scanners without any issue.

Panasonic has a great training facility in Kentucky that could be of enormous benefit to you and your team. Materials and Lasers range in capability. Generally speaking you need good contrast; which is not always guaranteed with bare PCBs. As othe
