I have an Electrovert UPK 660c fitted with IR preheats top and bottom. We assemble a large range of multilayer backplanes and I was wondering if there are any advantages in changing to convection preheats.Has anybody got any views on the subject.

I haven't tried doing these, personally...but... - Try a pre-heater? - IR rework station? Off the top of my head, that's all I've got. Cheers, ..rob

Here's a good IR preheater that you should look at: www.paceworldwide.com/products/smt-rework-systems-and-preheaters/preheaters/ph-100-low-profile-pcb-preheater

HI, just my 0,00001 cents Which preheat system does your wave solder has? for instance ? - IR ? - Bottom only ? - IR + Forced Air ? (bottom) - IR + Forced Air (bottom) IR top ? PCB thickness ? Appropriate preheat is important when looking to f

By the way, what type of preheaters do you have? IR? Convection? If you have IR, there may be a way to cheat. Vince W

The shorts happen at corner of the BGA. The PCB thickness is 1.6mm, It is a PC motherboard with all thru hole connectors mounted on.The preheating is done using IR heater and the temp is 120-160 for about 70-80 sec.I am using ERSA IR550A

Hi, Has anyone who's using vapor phase process able to help me troubleshoot tombstoning? I raed about uneven forces during reflow due to misalignment, pad design, paste volume deposition unevenness due to dirty stencils, worn stencil printer parts s

TYPE of Preheater makes a HUGE difference, as well. Infrared (IR) and convection, 2 of the most common types of preheaters, have very different heat transfer characteristics..... Convection heats your board more uniformly, so you'll see very small
