Pure Tin Quandry

It would appear that pure tin is backward compatible with leaded processes. This makes it a great finish, as if you migrate all your parts over time there is no issue mixing them. I am not aware of any finish that eliminates the possibility of tin wh

Why not follow SAC305? you would do so for any other component finish wouldn't you? A component finish of pure Sn would also not call for a pure Sn profile, would it?

NASA won't allow a pure tin finish in space. Any part with a pure tin finish must be recoated.

I have a customer who has put a restriction against pure tin finish components. We have gotten our BOMs compliant with all but 5 parts. Fairchild p/n FDD6512A, FQD12N20C, IRLM120A Bournes 3214G-1-501E Sprague 10TS-D10 I am looking for a standard pr

Keep in mind that you may need to assure that there are no pure tin finishes remaining on your parts. A general idea is that parts with pure tin (RoHs) finish will need to be plated with tin-lead solder to avoid the possibility of tin whiskers formi

Soldering problem with SMT Header

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 02 08:51:31 EST 2003 | Daniel Werkhoven

Dear Frank, could it be that your component legs are coated with a leadfree finish? This can have an inpact on soldering when your temp.peak in only 220C and the melting point of pure Tin is 237C. Best regards, Daniel

We use SAC305 and top side particular joint temp. is 110 deg C, and the terminal finish for that particular lead is pure tin. It look like hot tearing at the primary side of PTH.

Everyone has been playing a guess game so far :-) but we don't even know what the lead finish is:-) Even old (Sn-Pb finish) days, the ammount of Pb in the plating would be on a single digit level (just to mitigate Sn-whiskers growth), meaning that th
