Hi, we do Sn plated I/O pinning insertion into Ni/Au thru' holes. no problems here so far, as we cater for the "interference" (fit-allowances) of the I/O pin into the thru' diameter, via improved PCB thru' hole designs. before this cater/considerati

Hello We have recently started to work with press fit but we are finding problems to reach the specifications in terms of hole deformation and whiskers. Do someone have experience in key process parameters and PCB design specifications (PCB harness,

Hello Floyd, Yes, special tooling is required. The tooling usually consists of a press, push-in tooling and support plate tooling. The presses can range from relatively simple arbor type presses to automated hydraulic presses with sophisticated con

Are you using specific tooling for each part, or just generic? If so it could be pushing down at an angle and slightly tearing the PCB. We use the same style press as you but make custom fixtures to fit each connector and hold each PCB tight.

Sal: If its not the PCB, what about the connector itself ? Is it from a different production lot with some unregularities ( dimensions, tolerances, pin alignment, material weakness)? How about handling, storage, shipping causes ? Could it be a tooli

Currently we have started seeing an issue around a scuzzy connector. The problem being that during insertion of this connnector a couple of pins refused to be inserted and as a result fold over, this folding of the pin is causing the pin itself to fra

Oh yeah, I've seen this before! Generally, if the hole sizes are correct (including plating), and the PEMs are within spec, we've found that this is most commonly caused by insufficient support of the PCB during insertion. If you can eliminate supp
