After analyzing the pictures I don't think the solder balls are caused by the solder mask. If the problem would be solder mask related the solder balls would only show up on the solder mask but there are also solder balls on the plastic tabs. To me i

White Hazing under the solder mask of a through hole board

I have seen in the last couple of months more boards with a white hazing under the solder mask. I ran a few tests on a board to determine the cause of the white hazing underneath the solder mask. First I confirmed, or at least I think I confirmed, t

We saw this quite a bit, I want to say 5 or 6 years ago, but it's probably more like 10 years ago. It's caused by poor solder mask crue. Talk to your board fabricator about solutions.

Hi: I have seen this problem before. It is caused by improper curing of solder mask by the fab manufacturer. When you run the board thru' wave solder, and then wash the board, you see the problem of white residue. However, when you apply heat, you c

We talked about a similar "Blue Haze ( Not the same as Purple Haze)" awhile ago http://www.smtnet.com/forums/Index.cfm?CFApp=1&Message_ID=21401 The BIG difference is that yours is soluable.

The white haze is definitely an indication of moisture being trapped in uncured or improperly applied solder mask. You can verify this by heating up the board using a heat gun on an area of the board with the white haze, and if it clears up that is t

Blue Haze ( Not the same as Purple Haze)

My customer is finding a blue haze on some SMT pads after processing, kind of looks like a water spot on the surface of solder joints. It requires 20x mag and very good lighting to see. We have done 2 different ionic tests and the boards pass to clas
