We are using Humiseal 1B31 and polyester dots for masking. We are spraying this in a Binks sprayer mixed at almost 1:1 with 521 thinner. Whe are seeing the coating creating thin halos around the poly dots as if the dots are "rejecting" the coating. T

The quality of the brush is most important. We use artist brushes from Torrington Brush Works. Sable works best but are the most expensive. We use more camel hair. They work best for us as we "hand coat" hundreds of boards a week and go through many

We use a number of conformal coating materials. When you say you think you want to use a UV material do you mean UV cure, or just material with a UV trace for inspection purposes? For selecting appropriate materials take a look at IPC-HDBK-830. Keep

Tape test to check adhesion and multiple point thickness test - each board has 5 points per side documented for thickness testing & we measure pre & post coating thickness with an electronic meter. Also temp & humidty are also logged, and alarms go o

The easy part is to determine which parts should be coated. The harder part is making sure the parts that should not be coated do not get coated. I don't even want to think about the amount of labor and materials I've lost due to conformal coat get

Hi, I've been looking into UV cureable conformal coating and the UV ovens but a chemist I know is very negative about this. He suggest by heating standard conformal coating to 90deg for a couple of minutes will make the product good enough to handle

Shadow cure effects are dealt with by post cure mechanisims. New UV Coatings should have one, either heat or moisture cure. Basically UV primary cure starts off cure process, allows handling of the products. But UV is not suitable for all products

What about shadow effects? How do you cure UV coat under components?

Can you share some information relative to these questions about your conformal coating process: 1) What process controls do you use for conformal coating? 2) Do you perform manual conformal coating inspection? 3) Do you use AOI for inspecting confor
