The IPC Technical Activities Executive Committee (TAEC) and the IPC Board of Directors approved by vote, the introduction of a Qualified Products List (QPL) requirement within IPC-4101, Specification for Base Materials for Rigid and Multilayer Printed Boards. The intent of the new requirement is to enhance supply chain verification of materials specification sheets, minimize nonverified submissions of specification sheets and give support to the committee evaluations of the new materials specification sheets.

IPC's Validation Services Program is proud to announce that Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. has become the first company to be recertified to the IPC-J-STD-001 Space Addendum QML program. Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. achieved the QML certification three years ago and this year successfully demonstrated the Class 3 level work required for recertification. Not only did Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. become recertified, their wholly owned subsidiary, Colonial Assembly and Design LLC, added the QML certification for IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, at the class 3 level.

IPC's Validation Services Program has awarded and renewed an IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML) to ALPHA-electronik A/S, an ISO9001 and ISO13485 certified EMS-based company in Denmark. Following an IPC audit, Alpha-electronics became the first European company to successfully renew and complete an intensive audit, based on two of IPC's foremost standards: IPC J-STD-001, Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies and IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.

The Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) announced today that the Atlanta SMTA Expo would return to the Gwinnett Civic Center in Duluth, Georgia for its 19th annual event on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Technical sessions begin at 9:15 AM and the show floor opens at 10:00 AM. A preliminary survey in IPC’s new Pulse of the Electronics Industry global data service reveals a bullish outlook for most segments of the electronics industry, especially for equipment manufacturers and PCB fabricators. These industry segments showed the highest levels of confidence in the direction of current-state indicators. They, along with OEMs, reported the most positive expectations for growth in the next six months and 12 months.
