PBGA Replacement

Is there a standard that tells you how many times you can replace a PBGA without reliability issues? I've read IPC-7095 (many times) and have not found a recommendation for this. We have Class 3 products. My thoughts are 2 times max. We place PBGAs

Two BGA replacements (same location) and throw the card away is the rule we are following. Experience has taught us that anything beyond this and you'd be pushing it - specifically when your new PBGA's price is above $20.00. The biggest concern is

We have an application where we are applying a heatsink with a thermal tape that has pressure sensitive adhesive (psa) on either side. Does anyone know of an off-the-shelf heatsink press that we could use to apply a consistent, measured force for a

Thank you Russ for the information. One more clarification- I found that the %metal content in lead free paste is in the range of 88-89.5 whereas %metal content in Sn-Pb paste was 90% in general. What is the reason behind this reduction of %metal co

We bought a Ersa rework station (IR technology) recently and we found in trouble when having to replace BGA with metal heat sink cover. I am affraid that we will probably have to invest money again in a convection rework system. Does someone can refe

To be precise, the component is a Xilinx Virtex platform FPGA with 1152 balls. We also assemble some DSPs up to 1000 balls with metal cover. At best, we can remove the components but it is almost impossible to find a working solder profile using IR.

It wasn't that long ago that your beloved UIC was attempting to charge $20K to license a GSM. Are you saying they don't have a license fee structure any more? I bet they still do. I feel the fees charged by the SMT OEM's are justified as many are as
