I have several memory devices that have 2% bismuth in the lead coating. Is this enough bismuth to be concerned over the formation of a low temperature SnPbBi alloy? What are the allowable limits for bismuth in an SnPb process for both SMT and through

Tough to say. Can you accept the loss of strength of your solder connection if upto 2% of the solder is affected? * Lead and bismuth alloys can form a eutectic composition of Bi52Pb32Sn16 in the grain boundaries. * Melting point of the eutectic all

Hi All was wondering is there anything I should be aware of or look out for if using parts with SnBi (Pb free) lead plating with Sn/Pb/Ag solder paste? I was always lead to believe that mixng lead and bismuth caused problems or are the bismuth levels

Low Melt Solder Chemistry for use in Rework Process

Bismuth is a low-melting metal with poor mechanical properties; if you melt the bismuth wire into a standard tin-lead solder joint, then the bismuth alloys with the solder, and forms a material that will crumble if you scrape it with your fingernail.
