Thanks Mike, Unfortunately I am limited to the amount of time I can run preheat along with the limitation of only two different settings/cycles. Looks like its time to get a higher end rework station.

The mfg. should be able to tell you. We store ours, for winding transformers, at room temperature. Have had no issues.

Not to mention the addition of solder paste getting into an uncontrolled waste stream, being washed in the same appliances as someone's baby bibs, burp rags, etc.

There is a tape test from IPC in their TM-650 spec that can be downloaded for free from the ipc website. It will test for gold adhesion to the underlying nickel. Section 2.4.1E, I believe. It is quite simple to perform.
