Wave flux and profiling

Electronics Forum | Sat Dec 16 08:23:11 EST 2006 | pr

The "Wave optimizer" is a little pricey but is easy to use, gives instant feedback (display on the unit as opposed to hooking it up to a computer)and will give feedback on the waves, as well as preheat. They will send you a unit to trial for a week o

So others can solder the same board and part but you can't. Dipping the legs in flux doesn't help. Then it's either your pre-heat or wave. Measure your pre-heat and compare to others or flux mfger. Do you have chip wave or something like an Omega

Solder Balls and Humidity

I would say no, unless your machine is in extremeconditions. You may want to check your flux / preheat out as well. If you are leaving a lot of flux on the board at wave, it may be boiling - which can cause solder balls.

This is what I was thinking, but I am being beat up pretty badly by the selective solder. Ambient temperature is anywhere in the the neighborhood of 76 - 80 degrees F. I am not sure of the RH, but I wouldn't think that would be my issue... One of

how do you do it stephen? i'm interested to know what methods can be used to monitor a process such as this. is it best to set-up the wave machine parameters as russ and davef were talking about, what then, how do we know what effect a change in

Help! Does anyone know how to get a Camolot Gem II machine to put down dots for 0402 placement? I have been working with Electrovert Tech's that say their machine WILL place dots for 0402's. I have reduce the speed of the pumps to half the speed,

Sure you can use SPC charting on the wave setup parameters to warn of impending problems. Examples of useful points of analysis are: * Dwell * Temperature * Pot analysis Certainly there's a range of other process controls that could be monitored.

SPC and Wave

thomas, why isn't it process control, you cant just think that because you've set up your machine properly ( pot temp, wave height, pre-heat etc etc )that everything is going to be ok, there are other factors that you wont find with wave riders or

Good answer slthomas! This has got to be the biggest misconception out there. To perform SPC on a wave process you must first perfrom DOE to determine the critical parameters and or control limits. For example you will need temp reading devices tha
