Wire to board soldering

Electronics Forum | Mon Jun 19 08:45:55 EDT 2006 | dougs

Hi All, We have a board that's going through our process at the moment, it's 1.6mm thick and has 4 wires soldered into it, these are 10SWG multi stranded wires, i'm finding that it's difficult to get the holes filled with solder as it travels up

Ag/Pd Component Finish

Electronics Forum | Fri Jun 30 06:07:12 EDT 2006 | slaine

Hi If all the solder has collected onto the component termination then it sounds more of a PCB problem then a component problem. Some times all the temination can be stripped off the ceramic with high tin content solders and leave a gray finish behi

Drying after aqueous wash

Electronics Forum | Wed Aug 02 17:39:54 EDT 2006 | russ

Well i guess you would not have to dry the boards but let me ask this, Are you hand cleaning water soluble flux in a sink? Never seen a cleaner without a dryer. Anyway temp and time for drying is easy to figure out. When boards are dry you have i

thanks for replies guys. I have a nearly Full RoHS Compliant bom with 1 device non-rohs. It is a soj28 device rated ( as best as I can find out at 225degC) Production are screaming for these boards - I put a thermocouple on the part and it hits 23

That is great point John, it definitely gets you closer to apples vs apples. Remeber one time when we were compared to a another Mfgr that made a square box of plastic for one of our customers we made the PCB the fit into that box, we had wires, fi

Chinese Wave Solder Machines

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 21 20:21:11 EST 2006 | billwestiet

Most machines for lead free have adjustable conveyor angles (4 to 8 degrees). In the good ole days with lead, we typically ran at about 6 degrees. Often we see closer to 4 degrees with lead free. This is very common, and provides longer immersion

Patrick, Have you seen Al Gore's documentary on Global Warming, "The Inconvenient Truth?" It was okay, but I didn't like how Gore got political in a few scenes by slamming the current administration's environmental policies (or lack thereof...c'mo

The story so far!

We are an OEM and we were about 75% converted to lead free. Very few of our customers showed any interest in ROHS compliant products and none of our competitors were doing it either. We had a few field failures that may have been related to the hig

Wave soldering problem - strange colour of the solder

Electronics Forum | Fri Jan 19 10:43:28 EST 2007 | jimmyjames

You guys are all joking right?! There aren't any contaminates in your solder, the different colors on the surface are completely normal and even expected. The top layer of solder oxidizes and the structure of the surface resembles crystals, refract

aoi data

Electronics Forum | Wed Jan 24 21:29:43 EST 2007 | davef

Board fabricators commonly use Barco AOI to inspect film. The AccuMatch compares pixel-to-pixel of the Gerber data to the image seen by the AOI camera. It's slower than design rule checking, but has definite advantages [like lower falsing]. Unfortu
