We use a Brady label PTL-13-457 out of a TLSPClink printer on a 63/37 PCB. This label is supposed to go to Pb free temp but we have not actually tested it yet. - Jerry

Good read. Clearly shows the difference between the prssed shirt white paper pushers and the real end users of the lead free. I agree with the comments at the bottom of the article.

Patrick You're correct that black pad analysis is a distructive test. Kicking the lead-free dog certainly is easy [and somewhat fun] to do, but black pad is an equal opportunity defect. It affects leaded boards as well as it does with lead-free.

Hi Patrick Yes we have some that you cant tell the difference. BUT machine set up and angle are extremely important with Lead Free as is the dosing alloy. Cheers Greg

Hi Peter Its looks on a par with mine so not bad at all but our alloy is considerably cheaper than SAC305 and significantly shinier We used our 10-75-30-R VOC free flux with topside of 100 - 105C Cheers Greg

Would i be able to use the cast iron pot from my electrovert with out any problems? I thought the tin would dissolve the iron in the pot? This lead free thing is a headache!

Questions are: * Are these lint-free rags ESD-protected? * How do these lint-free rags remove the flux that seeps under components? * Have you considered flux pens as an alternative to your current process?

As a solder paste supplier I have profiled lots of different makes of ovens. I really like the Heller 1707. I have several customers who do lead free mid volume assembly with these ovens. They also seem to give shiny lead free joints.

if the BGA has leaded balls use leaded paste if the BGA has lead free balls use lead free paste and set your oven profile to match the paste
