The major profiler companies [ie, KIC, ECD, etc] give away FREE Excel spread sheets that list everyone's oven and paste and allow you to input board characteristics and then it suggests a profile. Go get one.

I've seen this problem caused by the cool down. On a 7 zone oven I made a profile to peak at zone 5 to give some semblance of control to the cool down. The component can develope a big delta T, because of the difference of materials

Kester 256 has also worked tremendously well for us. We have soldered thousands of BGAs from 156 balls to 780 balls .8mm pitch with no solder problems (shorts,opens or voids) and no residue problems. Give it a try.

Boothroyd and Dewhurst has DFA packages that are pretty good but are more for analyzing one design to an alternate design vs giving good times for your particular site, etc. You can find their site on the WEB.

Hi ChrisN Have you talked with your supplier that is sending the components into your plant in trays. They are putting the components into the trays or their source is. One of them should be able to give you credit for each returned tray. Ken Bli
