Back in the 50's, 60's and 70's gold plated boards were all the rage for high reliability. test equipment, milspec etc. Nowadays only edge connectors are gold plated. Immersion plated gold is also used but it doesn't last the distance like gold plate

Anyone experience using SnPb wire to gold plated ICs? I have tried to solder the SnPb wire to the gold plated ICs lead, but the surface finishing is dull. Can anyone explain that to me? Why it is not shinny surface? Any recommendation?

Chemical gold is a poorly defined [very sloppy] term that means various thing to different people [as you've demonstrated]. Commonly it is either: * ENIG: 5m Ni, 0.1m Au * Immersion gold "Autocatalytic chemical gold plating" - Refers to "electrol

I ordered few times of prototyping gold plating > pcb from China. How to i differentiate they are > ENIG or Flash gold? Hi,Friend , this is very easy to distinguish the ENIG and gold plating pcb, you can stratch the solder mask off and see the co

When discussing this with the customer he said that his vendor recommended a hard gold plating finish on the board due to the BGA. I said "hard gold"??? And he said yes, hard gold. Turns out the boards were plated with hard gold, not ENIG. Thank

Can someone tell me what metal substrates are comonly used for component leads with gold plating? If the gold plating is missing, are any of the substates incompatible with 63/37 solder? Thanks.
