Question: Do you run your pallets hot or cold thru the wave? I ask this because if you run your pallets cold the board will never preheat to the correct temp. thus, your flux won't activate properly. James

First you need to call your flux supplier an find out what your top side board temp should be for the flux you are using and what the dwell time should be.

I had confused by same problem, the reason I found is the interval between wave soldering and cleaning is too long and did not set the temp. of D.I water at 120F~150F. Kester flux is good. Rgs, Wister

How are Component manufactuers addressing the PB free solder inititive? Since I am told higher processing Temps will be required to reflow the pb-free alloy.

We use 30 and 32 gauge PTFE wire. The insulation will not melt with normal hand soldering temps. The wire was made by Thermax/CDT. Their phone number is 800-423-5873. The only problem with the wire is that is hard to glue to the board. We use Ta

Try: * Searching the fine SMTnet Archives. We have ground profiling, thermocouple attach, etc. to pulps. * Buying [ http://www.ipc.org ] IPC-7530 - Guidelines for Temperature Profiling for Mass Soldering (Reflow and Wave)

We had a problem with conformal coating getting under an IC and with Temp. and vibration would cause cracking of the solder bump, underfill solved the problem.

Hi Pete, It is an alcohol based NC flux. The machine does have quartz preheaters. We are preheating to the temp specified by the flux. Thanks Chris
