If you are concerned with the actual temp of your pre-heater verses what the machine's display "says" the temp is, use a calibrated digital thermometer and place the thermocouple probe inside the pre-heater and next to the machine's thermocouple for

Sue, It may be a thermocouple problem or the PID heater controller. Check with the wave machine mfg.'s tech support.

Dear Pete, thanks for the reply. My calibration procedure says pretty much what you said: variance of 10 degrees F. I am having a temp. swing of close to 80 degrees F. and no matter how I try to situate the thermocouple back into the preheater, I ca

Use them always - they help for even preheat of the board. If there is a temp sensitive/melting component on top side, turn them off.

I would always have top and bottom preheaters in a solderwave machine. Even if you can make it work without them, it's better to heat both sides of a board then just one. Far less stress on the parts you are soldering. Plus you may need it one day fo

I used to work for an OEM that made professional audio equipment (studio monitors, mixing boards, etc.). The mixers required precise alignment of LEDs, switches, and pots in the sheet metal so we used aluminum alignment fixtures during wave solder. T
