It depends on the application what will be considered the biggest issue to avoid (production or longterm reliability). Tin Whiskers are bit of an unknown quantity - but a more realistic problem could be dendritic growth / electromigration forming sho

If the operator has zero charge and the board has a 10kv charge, when the operator pulls the shorting strip from the edge connector after the coating has cured, there is a large potential for ESD induced damage.

you gotta ask WHY? thankfully dont place these but I wud imagine you have referenced the datasheet for solder thickness etc. How is your placement? You say ypu place 17 of these? are you seeing shorts on all of them or a select few? aj

The adhesive should be a dielectric (insulator) by design, if not it could possibly short across leads of the very parts it's intended to secure. It normally isn't a concern - what is the surface resistance of your soldermask, bodies of ICs, ...etc.

Thank you for responding. I called Speedline tech support he think there is a short some where in the motor. I changed the motor out and still have the same problem. The chain is normal, and using automatic lubricating. I will check more into this, a

What does failure analysis of the BGA indicate? Is this: * ESD damage * Open circuits * Shorting What's the problem?

Happy New Year to All: Has anyone of you encountered a solder short on QFP pin yet there's no evidence of bridging in between gaps? I am using an SnPb solder paste.

Something on the 5v side is pulling it down. I would check every thing associated with the harness you are disconnecting. Your shorting somewhere! Don't have a schematic in front of me. Also look for leads getting into the backside of your connecto

Need recommendations on brands and models of reflow ovens for lead free. Small benchtop for prototyping and short runs. Board size about 10" by 10". What works well? What to stay away from? Thanks for any input and advice.
