What is the general consensus on automated solder paste inspection? In a previous life, when we implemented AOI equipment, we implemented it at the end of the SMT line; our reasoning was that our screen printers had adequate repeatability for our pr

Good afternoon all, I am looking for help from you folks to find a place that can do metalurgical analysis on components and contamination. We are an OEM and just recently received back from the customer several units that failed in the field after

Pat, Try to run a glass plate (yeah I've used these before too), keep your wave pump speed the same, and slow down your conveyor speed. You will find the actual contact between molten solder and the 0.5" grids to be LESS vs. a faster conveyor speed

Yes, sure. In fact in some applications ICT is coming back. Mainly due to the fact that more and more SMT discrete components have no markings, so AOI cannot tell you if you have the correct value on the PCB. Fixed pin or flying probe ICT is a valuab

We used to use the Tapesplicer tool available from http://www.tapesplice.com (Sierra Electronics), in a high mix, low volume environment with MyData's (older feeders). Short review: It worked. Longer review: First, technique is everything. Splicin

We are already using ICT on the PCB, which should catch most missing components, also components installed backwards, or the wrong value(to a point - we do RF so we have lots of very small value caps and inductors which can't be measured), and in som

Russ - I agree with the other guys that the problem could be black pad or some intermetallic problem, possibly related to the "conversion" to HASL finish. But my first guess is still partial reflow at wave soldering. You won't catch it by push
