Multicore make a HMP alloy liquidus at 298 degrees, Pb93Sn5Ag2.Ive used it to attatch thermocouples but they're difficult to solder as they dont wet.

Good post WML! you helped a lot!, Chunks brings up good point. Are there vias that can be shorted by this component being slightly misaligned? When reworking there could be residual solder or even flux that has shorted the pads or component, etc.

Be carefull of the effect on other components with a 7mil stencil, like fine-pitch devices will bridge more, excess solder.

1) Use insulated wire & only strip back as much as you need for a good joint. 2) Wrap insulation tape around each joint (package lead with wire) after soldering to avoid any possibility of touching.

Is the hole always in the same solder joint? What parts do you see the hole(s) on? Can you try a different paste?

Two lines of thought are: * That you have some solder connections points us towards components. It seems like the solderability protection on some components need to have the reflothermal recipe tailored for that component. * Paste selection is a BI

Could you get by using a Wenesco or Air Vac PCBRM10 wave pot instead of an entire wave soldering machine?

We use two Streckfuss wave solder machines. They are pretty small depending on your needs. Maybe not the best, but being local and since we use a lot of their forming equipment, it works out well

Print your paste onto a ceramic tile, place the offending component onto it and send through the reflow oven; then observe the results. You will soon see if the component is solderable!

Hi all, Just to close off this issue I was having - the customer supplied a new batch of components and there was no issues . Looks like the whole of the previous batch was effected with solderability problems. Thanks for all the replies. aj...
