Closed by solder mask? At any rate, still sounds like wave solder. Take a look before and after wave. That should tell ya.

I ran into this yesterday. Seems some designer decided to not solder resist the via's on the solder side. Then the assembly went over the wave solder in a universal fixture. Not an ideal situation.

what part was this? was the high temp solder on the first level interconnect? why is the high lead solder being soldered with a SAC alloy?

Your risk is very high that the solder paste on the blind parts will dryout and hole the parts to the board but not actually reflow. They will pass electrical test but fall off in the real world. Blind soldering is a very high risk process.

If its an OA flux then this too acts similar to HASL flux in that they are very hygroscopic and would attract moisture and that would blow out the solder causing a void. Remember these fluxes have very high boiling solvents that do not get volatised

Hi Kevm, would it help to try solderability test of these pads using an agressive flux during soldering? Just a thought.

The component should float into place provided you have the correct amount of solder paste. Perform a solderability test on the pads. We have come across new components with oxidation that prevents wetting. This will cause components to not self ali

Can you get me a recommendation regarding a Micro BGA soldering. It is apparent there is a problem and I want to insure success by following recommended practices. Is there a particular solder mask configuration recommended, as far as stencil thick

Hi, Do you have a picture on one of these leads where the solder has covered the lead ? As this is a gull wing device I wouldn't expect solder to cover it. I expect to see a toe fillet / wetting around the sides of the lead and a heel fillet. If your

No, is will not create random solder balls. I have experience doing this(When we had a big via in middle of filter cap which was sucking all solder ,leaving insufficient solder for a joint).I calculated volume of via hole to determine the expansion o
