Blow holes on radial parts solder joints

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 06 16:19:12 EDT 2001 | davef

We build a mixed tech [eg, QFP, SMT fly shit, DIP] board where we can't clinch the DIP. So we set the clinch and cut on the DIP to just barely clinch, leaving the leads very perpendicular to the board. I wonder if you could do something similar wit

kapton dots and liquid solder mask

Electronics Forum | Tue Aug 09 10:01:26 EDT 2005 | pr

We have some large plated through holes, that we protect with hand placed Kapton dots before they go into the wave. Is there a better option? We are going to see if the boardhouse can put them on for us but I was curious how others are/would do this.

Running with sn100c in my solder pot!

Hi, Do you mean selective palettes in the wave? We are running those, and it makes the process window tight, but once we got there, it's great. Pre heating the board was a bit difficult, but we got it right, and went for a water based flux. Not sure

Design guidelines for solder thief pads

Electronics Forum | Fri May 07 05:47:44 EDT 1999 | Charles Stringer

This is not strictly a surface mount query but any input welcome I am thinking of using surface mount solder thief pads for a through hole connector. The connector is two rows of 0.1" pitch pins and on waving there is often a bridge on the last two p

Running with sn100c in my solder pot!

Hi, That's good news, and we did outs with SN100C as well on Wed, however we are still working hard on getting a good profile. We have some large BNC connectors, and they are hard to profile. We also have wave palettes, and these might be too thick

Running with sn100c in my solder pot!

Grant, Haven't doen any work with the SN100C paste, the problem I guess is yoru subject to the suppliers flux base so if that is poor then the alloy may not perform as well as it could. We've found Avantec to be pretty good at SMT but have got SN100C

Thermal cycles of tin lead solder in the Wave

Electronics Forum | Tue Oct 04 11:42:07 EDT 2005 | Bob Leible

I was wondering if anyone has studied the effects of tin lead solder in the wave. If we leave the same solder in the solder pot, how many COMPLETE cool downs and start ups can the solder go through before it begins to break down? Please let me know
