Can anyone recommend the best way to solder Manganin wire?

Electronics Forum | Thu Sep 04 16:43:00 EDT 2003 | coeps

I have never used Manganin wire. I understand it is difficult to solder. Should we use a move active flux. It will be a .25mm, PTFE insulated manganin wire spliced to thermistor wires. Thanks coeps

Grant, Haven't doen any work with the SN100C paste, the problem I guess is yoru subject to the suppliers flux base so if that is poor then the alloy may not perform as well as it could. We've found Avantec to be pretty good at SMT but have got SN100C

solder paste selection for an oxidized pin?

Wire wheel works too. Pre tin the part. Hand solder after reflow. Or order good parts. I prefer the last one. Hows that for an answer?

solder ball problem in manual soldering

Would be glad to offer some assistance, but I've got a couple of questions first: 1) What type of supplemental flux are you using? (If any) 2) Is your problem consistent across all assemblers, or can you trace the assemblies with solder ball issues b

Well, I'm going to assume you: * Have a nichel barrier between the copper on your board and the gold / solder solution * Use a lead / tin near euthectic solder If so, I pick "C" - It doesn't matter. When concerned about copper tin intermetallics, t

Testing effect of non-clean flux residue on solder joints

Hi...i have a question. After you solder a circuit board, what do you wash the flux residue off with? I am hesitant to use water for fear of subsequent corrosion, and have no clue as to what kind of flux is in my solder wire. automated pcb assembly

Hi Paul, Can't find any info on Cobalt 995,but we do have experience of 99/0.7/0.3 +0.02% Cobalt wire - flows better than any leadfree wire we've come across & the cobalt is supposed to improve tip life. Bit smokey though, but with extraction that'

Blow holes on radial parts solder joints

As a band-aid, consider running your chip wave when soldering these boards [Similar to Cals "dance with me babe" suggestion.] If the problem is as broad based as you say and the radial components have a tight fit, consider increasing the holes by a

Resistance value level of lead-free solder joint

Electronics Forum | Mon May 26 08:02:11 EDT 2003 | davef

Resistance: Tables of wire gauge often provide a resistance measure of some kind for each gauge. That way we can estimate the resistance of any length of wire we might be interested in. Calculating trace resistance is only slightly more complicated.

low thermal emf solder & paste - SAC 405

Hello davef - could it be you are confusing low thermal emf (Seebeck coefficient) with low temperature solder ? I am looking after solder wire and paste with low Seebeck coefficient - cadmium based alloy was OK but banned in europe due to RoHs direct
