QFN Thermal pad voiding

Electronics Forum | Tue May 19 15:06:36 EDT 2009 | c111

we had many problems with this. there is no standard that I could ever find. we came up with our own after weeks of headaches. we use 25% as our guide line we use window pain only for the center paid to allow for out gassing and reduce 15-20% globaly

SMT placement machines. Where are we going ?

Electronics Forum | Tue May 26 18:51:06 EDT 2009 | boloxis

Guys, I need to set up a new SMT line. I already got a refurb DEK 265 and Vitronics XPM3 reflow. I currently use Siemens but is getting really expensive (spare parts, service, upgrades, etc), I'm thinking Universal, Panasonic or Assembleon. Can

Alternative PCB Material

Electronics Forum | Sat Jun 06 15:14:35 EDT 2009 | ysutariya

If the concern is the increased moisture absorption associated with lead-free capable materials, you probably have the most experience with phenolic materials like Isola IS410 or 370HR. The best move would be to switch to an IPC 4101/99 or /124 mate

ESD considerations during Conformal Coating?

Electronics Forum | Fri May 29 23:19:46 EDT 2009 | isd_jwendell

I too have heard of the ESD problem when using aerosol spray conformal coating, but I haven't found any documentation. I have been spraying SR conformal coating for ~ 10,000 boards with no failures due to the coating. The person spraying is grounded

Bad solder joints

Electronics Forum | Thu Jun 04 14:35:11 EDT 2009 | floydf

We wound up using a ramp to spike profile with 50 sec. between 150C and 217C and 90 sec. above 217C. The idea being the flux is still active when it hits reflow, and it stays in reflow long enough for the weird alloy in the parts lead to wet. All par

Conformal Coating Equipment - Where to Start?

Electronics Forum | Tue Jun 16 11:29:16 EDT 2009 | operator

Does anyone have ballpark figures readily available for how much conformal coating machines cost? Benchtop and In-line? New and Used? I am really curious and considering purchasing, but don't want to go stir up a hornets net of salesman at this po

Hazards of Lead solder fumes?

Electronics Forum | Fri Jun 19 07:12:17 EDT 2009 | waveroom

I should know the answer to this question but it's Friday and my brain hurts. When soldering you create fumes that are from the soldering flux.. These fumes should be extracted or diverted. Question is at what point does the leaded alloy become a vap

SMT vs. Through Hole

Electronics Forum | Fri Jun 19 08:46:50 EDT 2009 | seer

Hello all, we recently rolled out our new SMT products and I have to write up a proposal for possible customers. Does anyone have a link or info on why SMT is superior to through hole techonolgy? Not concerning the maufacturing process but in relatio

Equipments required for making SMD PCB's

Electronics Forum | Tue Jun 30 12:08:55 EDT 2009 | wrongway

sipad does work we used it on one assy it had a very fine pitch part on it and at that time our dek 260 wasn't up to the task along with our 8 mil stencils. we had no problems with it it was sticky enough to hold the parts on thur all smt machines.

I have a second hand AOI machine that I am setting up however it came from a factory that used a network and it keeps looking for the network. Can anyone tell me how to stop it from looking for the network and go to the C drive instead? Its running "
