I also have used square apps on the BGA's, this also allows for a bit more play in alignment of the ball to pad, I am interested in the reasons why to use round apps on 0603's and 0402's ???

I would try it dry first, we have never used solvents in our SPM, AP-20 or UP2000. Wipe every 4 to 10 boards. Normally dont have to wipe when using epxoy.

We use a SAWA to clean our stencils and it performs quite well on solder paste but not so great with epoxy. Operators find the machine very easy to use and like mentioned before it takes up minimal space and has a lower intial and operating cost.
